Collections Specialist
Job Summary: Initiates, pursues and ensures the prompt collection of retail past due accounts. These accounts would include, auto loans (direct & indirect), unsecured loans, real estate secured loans including equity lines and deposit accounts. Responsibilities include the follow up on problem accounts from preliminary phone calls through the charge off and legal recovery process.
Essential Functions: Administrative- Reviews all delinquent accounts upon receipt in a specific collection queue to ensure all responsible parties have been contacted for payment. Handles skip tracing and other legal means to obtain current information to locate delinquent customers. Documents all collection actions taken, including telephone conversations, demand letters, alternative financial arrangements and correspondence. Reviews problem accounts with Department Manager and makes appropriate recommendations regarding charge off or repossession of collateral. Performs collection efforts in accordance with Bank policies and procedures and ensures they are legally compliant. Assumes responsibility for establishing and maintaining effective communication and coordination with Bank personnel. Stays informed of changes in collection policies, procedures and related legal requirements. Professional business relations exist with related agencies, organizations, institutions, co-workers and problem customers. Customers are appropriately assisted in resolving their problems. StellarOne Corp should be professionally represented in all business and legal matters. Adheres to all rules and regulations applicable to this position. Performs other related duties as assigned.
Education, Skills and Experience: Required – Ability to organize and prioritize work to meet legal deadlines. Ability to apply logical thinking to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw conclusions. Excellent math and clerical skills. Ability to work independently with a minimum of supervision. PC proficiency. Ability to work flexible hours. Positive attitude toward customers and co-workers. Preferred – Previous collection and/or banking experience.
