Director of Commercial Banking

JOB SUMMARY: Overall responsibility for Commercial Banking line of business. This line includes all commercial and middle market client relationships in all StellarOne Banking markets, as well as commercial real estate banking. The objectives of this position are achieving high profitability of the Commercial Banking LOB by growing existing and prospective commercial and industrial relationships, building market share, improving products and service delivery and achieving greater efficiencies within the business line’s delivery of loans, deposits, treasury management, wealth management and insurance services. Responsible for creating strategies and tactics for optimizing market share and profitability while meeting asset quality targets established by executive management. Manages and directs commercial regional executive officers and the head of commercial real estate.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES: Responsible for developing a cohesive business plan for the commercial banking business line and managing implementation across the bank’s geographic footprint including alternative distribution channels such as the bank’s e-channel. Responsible for staffing the commercial business line to assure good market coverage and strong risk management in an efficient, effective manner. Responsible for monitoring and managing the profitability of the line of business. Lead and support change which increases customer focus and achieves business goals. Drives the development of standardized products for the commercial arena and leads system-wide pricing decisions that achieve target ROE goals while making StellarOne competitive in the markets served. Responsible for leading product enhancement and development to assure competitiveness. Responsible for planning and then translating marketing initiatives into tangible business results. Responsible for employee coaching to achieve results and for adhering to StellarOne’s performance management system, including the use of scorecards to measure and monitor line employees performance. Responsible for preparation of annual employee reviews of direct reports, and oversight of all interviewing and hiring, promotions, demotions, terminations and salary adjustments within the business line. Responsible for ensuring adequate training is provided on commercial products. Other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION, SKILLS & EXPERIENCE: Required- College degree or equivalent work experience. Masters degree desirable. 15+ years of broad gauged commercial banking experience, preferably including line and staff assignments. 10+ years management experience. Proven track record of leading and partnering in a multi-business line environment. Broad exposure across financial services products, commercial segments, and delivery channels. Previous marketing or sales experience in financial services. Successful experience with alternate distribution strategies and delivery systems.
