B2C Underwriting Team Leader

Job Summary: Serves as the B2C Underwriting Team Leader for all consumer loan applications. Will be a team member involved in the implementation of all consumer loan products and policies. Integrally involved in the effective rollout of platform updates, enhancements and process changes. Will be involved in the maintenance of the B2C scorecards. As the Senior Consumer Loan Underwriter for the Centralized Consumer Loan Underwriting group, is responsible for managing the consumer underwriting staff, including but not limited to quarterly performance reviews. Loan authority will be commensurate with consumer lending underwriting experience and knowledge of all consumer compliance laws and lending regulations. Provides assistance, as necessary to individual retail lenders in terms of analyzing an applicant’s financial position and discussing alternative financing solutions when applicable. Works closely with the Processors/Closers Team Leader. Provides leadership in the absence of the Retail Credit Administrator with regard to Consumer Loan applications and maintains a strong working knowledge of all system applications and consumer loan programs. Provides support, training and guidance to other members of the Retail and Small Business Banking Groups.

Essential Functions: Administrative- Supervises the B2C Underwriting Process in the absence of the Director of Retail Credit Administration. Is responsible for the continual review and adjustment of B2C scorecards. Works closely to help maintains the Retail Lending Center Portal. Helps as needed with Baker Hill System training and development. Assembles reports and other pertinent information for management as requested required. Performs quarterly and annual performance reviews, including coaching as needed, for the B2C Underwriters. Responsible for monitoring and addressing as needed the delinquency and charge-off ratios for all Consumer Loans.

Credit Review: Investigates all available resources of credit and financial information, including report services and credit bureaus. Analyzes financial statements, financial ratios, cash-flow data, collateral and related materials. Reviews consumer application information and financial data within the automated system for credit worthiness and repayment capacity. Presents credit risk assessment to Loan Officers and assists in structuring loan requests to meet underwriting guidelines. Recommends appropriate loan decision along with financing alternatives and approves loans within lending authority or make recommendations to Director of Retail Credit Administration. Adheres to all bank policies and regulations applicable to this position. Performs all other duties that may be assigned.

Customer Service: Demonstrates the ability and willingness to provide knowledge and support to other members of the Retail Banking Support Group and assists in providing training whenever needed. Sends semi-annual performance Underwriter surveys to Relationship Managers. Uses results to provide coaching opportunities and enhance StellarOne core values.

Education, Skills and Experience: Required – Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Business, Finance or a minimum of seven years of retail banking experience and five years experience in retail lending. Broad understanding of financial statements, financial ratios, cash flow data and other credit information. Basic working knowledge of banking principles and federal lending regulations. PC proficiency with a working knowledge of Internet Explorer, Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook applications. Excellent communication, problem solving and analytical decision-making skills. Ability to provide outstanding customer service. Ability to work accurately with detailed information in a fast-paced environment. Possess strong leadership and organizational/time management skills.

Preferred – Detailed knowledge of Banks Lending Guidelines.
